Chapter 9: Volunteering for JALT: One Woman’s Journey and a Call to Female Language Educators by Louise Ohashi

Louise Ohashi details her involvement with the organization JALT (Japan Association for Language Teaching) from her perspective as a teacher, researcher, graduate student, and mother. She tells us from an insider’s perspective what it means to be involved in such an organization and the many benefits and difficulties that one can encounter with such a commitment.

About the Contributor
Louise Ohashi (PhD) is an Associate Professor at Meiji University, Japan, who has been teaching in the field of TESOL since 1999. Her research interests include the use of digital technology in language teaching/learning, learner autonomy, and motivation. She is an active volunteer who served on JALT’s Board of Directors as Director of Program from 2016 to 2018 and is currently JALTCALL’s Publicity Officer, JALT2020’s Conference Co-Chair and a peer reviewer for various publications and conference vetting committees.
