Chapter 3: A New Faculty Member in Japan: An Ecological Perspective on Becoming a Researcher by Sarah Mason

Abstract 
Sarah Mason uses an ecological perspective to relay her journey of becoming a researcher, combining it with teaching and a sense of service. She discusses issues of identity and agency and the importance of mentoring on this path.


About the Contributor
Sarah Mason (MRes) has been teaching English at all levels in Japan for over 20 years. Her research interests include language teacher identity, bilingual education, and qualitative research methods. She is currently a PhD candidate with Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia.
