CHAPTER 13. Collaboration in Training as a Learning Advisor
Adelina Ruiz Guerrero
Abstract
This chapter is concerned with the role of collaboration in a training scheme that prepares teachers to become learning advisors in a private Jesuit university in Mexico. The training program allows participants to experience activities from a student’s perspective and through strategies to promote the development of their own autonomy. The work done in this training scheme is supported by the Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm followed by Jesuit institutions as well as concepts such as Ignatian Style Accompanying and Leadership. The most salient components of this scheme are reflection and cooperation, and they are encouraged in a series of activities that provide opportunities for collaborative learning throughout the course. The experience has brought about an understanding of the role of shared responsibility and community in the development of autonomy.
