Foreword by Ema Ushioda

Abstract
In this foreword, Ushioda reflects on the nature of autonomy itself and on the complex relationship between 'autonomy' and 'making choices.' She comments on our different roles and our need to be congruent with our sense of self which is not always easy when our commitments compete.
