Chapter 15. Moving on: Life after eikaiwa by Andrew Boon

Abstract
Andy Boon examines the future careers of those who worked in and departed from the eikaiwa industry. He draws upon both his own experience and the stories of ten former eikaiwa teachers who are currently working in fields as diverse as banking, public relations, and photography. The stories in this chapter highlight a number of transferable skills that experience in eikaiwa provided these individuals and how they were able to utilise them in their different professional sectors. His insights challenge the predominantly negative framing of eikaiwa by focusing on the growth that can occur through working in the industry.
