Foreword

Paul Kei Matsuda

Abstract
In this foreword, Paul Kei Matsuda traces the evolution of collaborative approaches to second language writing, from early skepticism about peer response to contemporary understandings of writing as a social and communicative practice. Highlighting the importance of interaction, collaboration, and participation, he situates the volume within ongoing developments in writing pedagogy and argues that meaningful communication remains central to writing development, even in an era shaped by digital technologies and AI.

"The chapters in this collection reflect an important stage in the continuing development of collaborative approaches to second language writing instruction" (p. iv)
