Conclusions. The Human Heart of Peer Review and Communicative Practices in L2 Writing
Ashton E. Dawes
Abstract
The conclusion of Cultivating Confidence in L2 Writing brings the volume’s central message into sharp focus: peer review is not inherently ineffective, but it needs to be reimagined. Moving beyond checklist-driven routines, this chapter highlights how meaningful peer review emerges when it is designed as a communicative, collaborative process grounded in clear structure, purposeful interaction, and explicit training. Drawing together insights from across the volume, the author shows how dialogue about writing fosters feedback literacy, higher-order thinking, and student confidence, while positioning technology as a supportive tool rather than a replacement for human interaction. Looking ahead, the author offers a compelling vision for writing classrooms where peer interaction remains at the heart of learning, ensuring that, even in an evolving technological landscape, writing development stays deeply human, reflective, and connected.
