Annual News Bulletin
Season's greetings from Candlin & Mynard! Thank you for your continued support for our small publishing company. We are delighted to share details of five books published in 2024 and several new titles to be released in 2025-6, including two new books to be released in January 2025. (See Egitim, 2025; Hooper, 2025.)
Our promise is to make our publications timely, affordable, and accessible. We do this by publishing reasonably priced books in print and ebook formats and making them available via subscription services and libraries. We would like to take the opportunity to thank YOU, our readers, for purchasing and recommending our books. If you are in the position to request books for your libraries or add our titles to reading lists for courses you teach, this will make a big difference to our sales.
In order to continue to honor our commitment of affordability and accessibility, we offer open-access opportunities. Open-access will ensure that your book (or chapter) is shared and cited widely. In addition, it helps us to cover our costs and continue to publish affordable books. If you have access to funding to cover open-access publishing, for example, as part of a grant or research allowance, we would be very happy to work with you to make your work accessible to readers far and wide for free. Open-access books and chapters undergo the same peer-review process and editorial care as all of our other books.
Enjoy reviewing our recent and forthcoming titles below. Be sure to scroll down further for other news, and right to the bottom for details about how you can publish with us.

New books published in 2024
The Doomsday Syllogism
Peter McLoughlin
In "The Doomsday Syllogism," Peter McLoughlin presents a compelling examination of history's inescapable patterns and the illusion of power. Building on his previous work, "The Pattern of History," McLoughlin argues that every great civilization ultimately faces the war it strives to avoid, and today, that dreaded conflict is nuclear holocaust. Through a blend of historical analysis and philosophical insight, this book challenges readers to rethink the fundamental drivers of conflict and the nature of power itself.

The Big Beasts of English Grammar: An Exploration of Form and Function in Conversations
Christian Jones and Graham Burton
In this book, the authors explore some of the ‘big beasts’ of English grammar—those familiar structures like conditionals and reported speech that are often emphasised in syllabuses and textbooks. Drawing on a corpus of conversation data, the book provides new insights into how these structures actually function in real-life conversations, revealing how grammar teaching often overlooks key contextual uses.
